The Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education in Teaching and Learning (NQF level 8) is offered jointly Stellenbosch University, the University of the Western Cape and the Cape Peninsula University of Technology. The programme aims to enhance the quality of teaching and learning in South Africa universities and promotes a scholarly and professional approach to development in the field of university teaching. It is the first collaboration of its kind in South Africa. The diploma is offered part-time over two years. It comprises three core modules – Teaching and Learning in Higher Education, Assessment in Higher Education and Research for Enhancing Teaching and Learning, and one elective. The elective is chosen from a range of options that address specialised issues in teaching and learning in higher education, such as information and communication technologies for teaching and learning, academic leadership and management as well as postgraduate supervision. The programme is taught through a combination of one contact week per semester, held in the Western Cape and online activities.
